Today's the big day...

Happy Birthday! Homer Simpson celebrates your birthday every day. The donuts with pink icing and multicolor sprinkles are his favorite food.
ReplyDeleteI have two birthday traditions. My birthday falls near Memorial Day weekend and since I was a kid we've gone camping for my birthday. For me it feels the official start of summer.
The other is a family tradition started by my mother. When we were little she would burst into our rooms and wake us up (she is a morning person, but my sister and I were not at the time) by loudly singing The Beatles song Birthday. It has now spread where everyone in the family sings this to the birthday gal/guy during the day. The only issue is that we are all especially awful singers and no one remembers the lyrics past the first couple of lines, but what we lack in skill we make up for in enthusiasm and it all breaks down into laughter after the first couple of lines anyway.
I hope you have an amazing Birthday! I love your blog and have also discovered a lot of other great blogs that keep me motivated through your posts. I also appreciate your giveaways even though my number hasn't come up yet!
And of course I'm an RSS subscriber!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday and I follow you both. Those prizes make me drool.....

My husband started the tradition of a Dairy Queen cake. I can't get enough of it and because there are only 2 of us we can eat it for the entire week.
ReplyDeleteI love picking the birthday treat!
ReplyDeleteMy hubby and I have been married for 20+ years (second marriage for both of us). We take each other out to eat on our birthdays. That's the only tradition we have. We decided a long time ago not to exchange gifts because we usually buy what we want when we need it. I guess you could say we are just an old married couple.
ReplyDeleteWe have never been big on birthday traditions. As I have gotten older it is even worse. As long as I get cake I won't complain too much.
ReplyDeletehappy happy birthday! Birthday week is the way to go, unless you can finagle birthday month.
ReplyDeleteStopping in to wish you a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY and thanks for sharing with us. Love your new ring and you are a lucky gal! My tradition is when I meet up with my friend and we dine together. This has been going on for about 20 years now and also my hubby says *Baby, buy what you want* Love him! Have a great day and remember to eat *cake* first! I can be reach at the following email and thanks for the opportunity to win great prizes!

we've always celebrated birthdays with family, always as a kid. now that I have my own kids, every year we do this together with everyone, but then we always go out to dinner and a movie (if there's a good movie we all want to see) but eating out together the four of us is fun, I love spending my birthday with my kids, would not trade it for anything, we just celebrated my birthday on the 27th, had my mom with us all day long too, and we were all really happy to be together.
ReplyDeleteHappy Happy Birthday! I am a follower of yours!

Happy Birthday! I hope you have an amazing day :) Growing up my favorite birthday tradition was the birthday dinner. No matter how tough or easy the recipe my mom would cook us whatever we wanted including the cake. One year I was on an Indian food kick and I asked my mom to make homemade curry and naan bread. It turned out surprisingly well :)
ReplyDeleteI am also following your wonderful blog now too! Can't wait to read more!

ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Katie! My birthday tradition is a call from my Mom, every single birthday, telling me how, "Oooh, I remember this day, back in 1985 in the middle of July! It was scorching hot, and I was as big as a house, and then I had my little baby girl, at 11:56 AM, and you were so cute and teeny..." :) She's done it for every year for my whole life!
ReplyDeleteHappy birthday! Hope everyone has fun.

In 2006 when I was having a crappy birthday I was standing on the balcony of my apartment contemplating my life and the people I let be around me, when I noticed a Monarch butterfly go by, I didn't really think much of the one, then a while later a couple more flew past, then I started to watch for them and there was a steady stream of them fluttering in between the apartment buildings. It felt like a sign and a birthday present, so now I always look out for them, they're the best birthday present I could ask for.
ReplyDeleteAnother birthday tradition of mine is to go to the Texas Renaissance Festival and spend all day.
ReplyDeleteI'm a new follower, and I always have eclairs for my birthday, instead of cake.
ReplyDeleteI'm MPR's newest follower!
ReplyDeleteOoh@ It depends on whose birfday it is.
ReplyDeleteMy mom does the traditional, dinner night out with my dad.
For my birthday, we've always ridden our motorcycles along the scenic route to get to Marble Falls, TX (I'm originally from Round Rock- about an hour away) to have some old- fashioned home cooking at the Bluebonnet Cafe. And to finish dinner off, nothing other than Peanut Butter pie. Yummmm. My favorite ride (and scariest!!) was the year I turned 15 and way able to ride my own motorcycle as part of the group, instead of behind one of my parents. Of course, it's a lot harder now that I'm out of state, but I still manage to make it back every now and then. :)
Oh, and HAPPY BIRFDAY! I just started following, but I've been creeping on your posts for awhile now. :P
Growing up, my favorite (well one of them) birthday tradition was not having to do any of my chores that day. :)
